This is conclusive proof Colorado has it going on where it counts. One of our residents just broke a world record, and it's the best world record ever.

World's fastest human? Boring. World's longest pizza? Who cares? This new record, documented by the Guinness Book of World Records, is what really counts.

According to the Daily Camera, earlier this month, Boulder native Evan Blecher, 14, set the world record for the fastest time solving a Rubik's Cube while on a pogo stick. It seems Evan was looking through the 2020 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records when he discovered the record for the fastest time solving a Rubik’s Cube on a pogo stick and thought, “I think I can beat that.”

Okay, so how quickly can one solve a Rubik's Cube while on a pogo stick? My first guess was something in the 10-minute range. It seems I was way, way off.

Evan beat the existing record on his second attempt. He then beat that record on his third try, coming in at an unbelievable 16.71 seconds. Personally, I don't think I could last 16 seconds bouncing on a pogo stick, let alone while solving a Rubik's Cube. Insofar as the cube itself is concerned, I never could solve one of those. I usually just solved the problem by peeling the stickers off.

Take a look at some old news. Here's the previous record holder from 2019.

What was the most difficult part of the process? Evan says jumping up and down on a pogo stick while solving the cube was the easy part of the equation. The hard part involved documenting the feat for the Guinness Book or World Records. Evan and his father, Herb, sent an application to Guinness back in February. Ultimately, they received the 30-page guide book listing all requirements.

Check us out, Colorado. One of our very own set the world record at 16.71 seconds. What's next for Evan? He has since launched an informative webpage, cubingawaycorona.com. The site offers instructions on how to solve the Rubik's Cube, no pogo stick required.
