If you love throwing a line in the water you’re going to love hearing about the second annual Blue Mesa Reservoir Lake Trout Tournament that is currently underway at Blue Mesa Reservoir. Although just a heads up, you will not be alone out there as lots of Colorado anglers are fishing for the $10,000 prize money up for grabs.

I’m sure you’re already thinking about grabbing your tackle box but first, you gotta know where you’re headed. Blue Mesa Reservoir is off U.S. 50 east of Montrose, so not a far distance to try and score some of the prize money.

How Long is the Fishing Tournament at Blue Mesa Lake Going on?

The tournament is put on by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and anglers will have until July 31st, 2021 to capture the tagged fish. Each tagged fish is $250, plus there is the additional prize money that will be awarded. For catching the most tagged fish you will get $1,000, 2nd place is $500, 3rd place is $250.

There are Specific Rules for Anglers to Follow When Going After the Prize Money

Colorado Parks and Wildlife have some rules for getting in on the prize money and I would highly suggest you read through all of them so you don’t get disqualified. Also, if you have any questions regarding Blue Mesa Reservoir you’re encouraged to contact CPW Aquatic Biologist Dan Brauch by phone at (970) 641-7070 or email dan.brauch@state.co.us

Good luck to all anglers attempting to score the prize money. Please be careful when fishing in Colorado.
