The Los Angeles Angels have wrapped up Mike Trout through 2020. The American League Rookie of the Year in 2012 and runner-up in the AL MVP voting the last two seasons has agreed to a six-year, $144.5 million deal.

Also in the majors:

— Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has been placed on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his seven-year career because of a swollen muscle in his left upper back. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner already had been scratched from his scheduled start in San Diego on Sunday after an MRI revealed the problem. Kershaw was hoping to get back in the rotation for Friday's home opener against San Francisco.

— Rookie Tommy Medica (MEHD'-ih-kuh)— and 35-year-old Xavier Nady (NAY'-dee) have made the San Diego Padres roster, while left fielder Carlos Quentin will start the season on the disabled list. Nady has battled injuries, including having reconstructive elbow surgery, and was in Triple-A all last year as he tried to keep his career going. A first baseman and outfielder, he made his big league debut with the Padres in 2000.

— Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren says right-hander Cory Gearrin has a "significant" injury to his right elbow. The reliever will be examined by Dr. James Andrews next week and will open the season on the disabled list.
