Marussia says Formula One driver Jules Bianchi remains in a "critical but stable condition," nine days after he suffered a severe head injury in a crash during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Marussia says in a statement released Tuesday that "a number of medical challenges have needed to be overcome and the situation remains challenging" due to the traumatic brain injury Bianchi suffered.

Bianchi's medical condition has not changed since the last update from his parents and the hospital in Yokkauchi, Japan, where the French driver is being treated.

Bianchi was injured when his car rammed into a crane picking up another car that had skidded off the course in wet conditions during the race on Oct. 5.
