The alert below was issued Thursday evening, December 9, 2021, with some alerts still in effect through midnight Friday, December 10.

The Message Sent Out Across Colorado Thursday Evening

The following message was transmitted at the request of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center:

  • WHAT...An Avalanche Warning is in effect.
  • WHERE...CAIC Forecast Zones-Steamboat/Flat Tops, Aspen, Gunnison,
    North San Juan, and South San Juan
  • WHEN...Beginning 4:00 PM Thursday, December 9. Expires at 11:59 PM
    Friday December 10.
  • IMPACTS...Heavy snow and strong winds will result in numerous
    natural avalanches on Thursday night. Very dangerous avalanche
    conditions continue into Friday with human-triggered avalanches
    very likely.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Backcountry travel in
    avalanche terrain including the runout of avalanche paths is not
    recommended. Consult www.colorado.gov/avalanche for detailed
    information.

Well... At Least We Have Some Snow

As you're undoubtedly aware, communities all over Colorado shattered records for the least measurable snowfall. Well, we finally have some snow, and I guess we have to take the good with the bad.

I would like to post again, though, the alert from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center states, "Beginning 4:00 PM Thursday, December 9. Expires at 11:59 PM
Friday December 10."
