Avalanche Claims the Life of Young Fort Collins Backcountry Skier
A young backcountry skier tragically lost their life Sunday afternoon (Dec. 8).
The Larimer County Communications Center received a 911 call that a 29-year-old female backcountry skier from Fort Collins had been caught in an avalanche near Cameron Pass on Highway 14, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
The skier was not alone, and the other skiers tried to dig her out while they called 911 for help.
Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Jackson County rescue resources responded.
The skier was not breathing after the avalanche and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, her body was recovered from the mountainside by the responding rescue resources.
