Cleveland NFL Team Gets a Mascot
The city of Cleveland is rocking these days with the drafting of Johnny Manziel (man-ZEHL'), the securing of the Republican Convention and last week the return of LeBron James. Now, after all these years, the Browns have a mascot.
And it's not somebody dressed inside of a costume. The Browns have introduced "Swagger," a dog, in an attempt to re-connect with Cleveland's old Dawg Pound of the past.
Cleveland team vice president of marketing Kevin Griffin revealed the news in a radio interview. Griffin says the dog is a bull mastiff, described by The American Kennel Club as a dog "that possesses great intelligence and a willingness to please, making them ideal family companions and protectors."
The dog mascot is an attempt to re-connect with Cleveland's Dawg Pound of the past. The notoriously rowdy bleacher section in old Municipal Stadium gave Cleveland one of the best home-field advantages.
The Browns will be the fourth team in the league with an animal mascot, joining Seattle's hawk, Denver's Arabian horse and Baltimore's two ravens.
